“Whatever you do for one of these least brothers of mine,
you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
How do we treat others who are different from us? The poor?
The marginalized? The
imprisoned? The homeless? How do we treat people that we simply don’t
like or rub us the wrong way? The
challenge of this gospel verse is that we must treat everyone with the same
level of respect and solemnity that we offer up to Christ. This is extremely challenging because there
is always that co-worker or classmate that we avoid or that family member whose
calls we don’t return. Do we treat
others as we would treat our Lord and Savior or, more importantly, do others see
the face of Christ when they encounter us?
