Day 40 - No Ordinary Week
He died for you. Just meditate on that for a moment. This man died...for you. Obviously, this was no ordinary man, just like this is no ordinary week. We cannot go about our lives this week as if this gospel of the Passion that we have just heard does not matter. We cannot ignore the cross. We cannot ignore this sacrifice. When we stop and contemplate what Jesus did for us we cannot be indifferent. He who is both God and man like the second reading tells us, he “did not regard equality with God…rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave…he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8).” God though he was, he submitted himself to the cruel hands of humanity in order to save it. That is why this is no ordinary week. The Son of God enters triumphantly into Jerusalem today knowing that he is going to suffer a gruesome death and does so because he loves us to no end. Indeed, this is no ordinary week. We cannot be indifferent because he did this for you!
